Your
board meetings are long and boring.
HOW TO RUN NO-NONSENSE POWER MEETINGS
-
Invite to your board meetings nerds and
non-conformists, the likes of 20-year old
Bill Gates or Steve Jobs, who can tell in
the face of your coat-and-tie directors
that your successful business has no place
to go but down.
- Once
a year, invite the labor union leader to
the board meeting, preferably before CBA
negotiations.
- Once
in a while, ask your middle managers to
write the agenda for the board meeting.
- If
you are a manufacturing firm, conduct the
board meeting once in the factory, like
in the plant manager's room, after all directors
have toured the plant.
- Have
a quality improvement team present its implemented
project before the start of every board
meeting.
- Institute
"bad news reporting", i.e., ask
executives to present first their failures
before their accomplishments.
